Back to School, back to the Pool!
Swimming Classes Season – Tips for New Parents
As the new school year begins, families are getting back into routines, activities, and exciting opportunities for growth. One of the best skills your child can develop is swimming—not just for fun, but also for fitness, confidence, and lifelong safety.
At SwimFit Club, we’re excited to welcome our swimmers back for Term 1 starting September 1st. Whether your child is taking their very first strokes or is already swimming with technique, this season is the perfect time to dive in!
Here are some practical tips for new parents to support their children on their swimming journey:
1. Be Consistent with Attendance
Swimming is a progressive skill, just like reading or math. Missing classes can slow your child’s progress and affect their confidence. Try to stick to the routine and treat swim class as an important part of their weekly schedule.
2. Encourage, Don’t Pressure
Every child learns at their own pace. Celebrate small wins—whether it’s putting their face in the water, floating for a few seconds, or completing a lap. Encouragement builds confidence; pressure often leads to fear.
3. Prepare the Right Gear
Pack the essentials: swimsuit, goggles, swim cap, and a towel. Having their own gear not only makes children feel “ready,” but also helps them get comfortable with the idea of being swimmers.
4. Stay Positive About Progress
Swimming is a journey. Some children may take weeks to feel comfortable, while others jump right in. Trust the process and the coach. Remember: progress looks different for every child.
5. Build Commitment Together
Talk to your child about why swimming is important—whether for safety, fun, or fitness. Setting goals together (like learning a new stroke or swimming a certain distance) helps build commitment and a sense of achievement.
6. Be a Role Model
If your child sees you enjoying the water—whether swimming, floating, or just having fun—they’re more likely to develop a positive attitude toward swimming. Consider joining an adult class while they swim!
At SwimFit, we believe swimming should be fun, safe, and rewarding. With the right support from parents, kids not only become better swimmers but also learn life skills like discipline, resilience, and confidence.
📅 Don’t forget: Our new term starts on September 1st at Damac Hills and Hamdan Sports Complex. Secure your child’s spot today and make swimming part of your back-to-school routine!
